The Wonders of Travel

5 Things To Find Out About Hotel Parking Before You Travel

Traveling away from home with your vehicle usually means concerns about parking, even at the hotels where you intend to stay. There are five important things to find out about hotel parking before you book your stay with any particular place.

1. Find out how far the parking is from the hotel.

Of course, all travelers prefer that parking is available right at the hotel, but in some urban areas, this is just not plausible. Many hotels in urban areas rely on parking garages or something similar for parking for their guests. If this is the case, find out how far parking is from the hotel and whether there will be transportation provided from the parking area to the hotel.

2. Find out if parking will be included in the cost of your stay.

Some hotels do include free parking with a guest stay, but others may have parking available for an additional fee. You may also find parking packages for hotel parking if you are going to be at the hotel for an extended period of time.

3. Find out if valet parking will be available.

Some of the higher-end hotels do offer valet parking as a complementary service, and some offer the service option for an additional fee. It is really helpful to know this before you arrive so you can plan accordingly and know where to go. In some instances, it can be best to opt for valet parking if the parking area is a long way from the hotel.

4. Find out if you will need a specific kind of parking.

Maybe you will be traveling with a trailer or in a larger vehicle than most. If this is the case, make sure you find out if your vehicle will require special parking accommodations. For example, if you are going to be driving a full-size truck and pulling a trailer with a boat, you may need special parking accommodations. You may have to pay for two parking spaces instead of one if the hotel charges for parking in a situation like this.

5. Find out if the parking is in a protected area.

In the event you will be parking your car away from the hotel, it is always best to find out how secure the parking area is. You may find that some hotels have a private parking garage that requires an access code or a proof-of-stay receipt in order to get in.
